Platinum Oxide

Inner Quartz Plasma Tube

Particles were found on the wafer surfaces inline after a plasma was generated through this quartz tube. I cracked open the tube and found how the plasma was etching into the quartz, revealing these structures that would eventually thin enough to break off and land on the wafer.

Nanoparticle Catalyst

The HRSTEM HAADF image reveals the nano-twin or stacking fault boundary in a nanoparticle catalyst, which were determined as the active site in chemical reaction by neutron diffraction experiments.

These structures are defective capacitors of a Silicon chip. Polysilicon top plates present different gray levels : This is an illustration of Passive Voltage Contrast, the polysilicon top plates are charged up by the primary e-beam and this charge amount is modulated by different capacitor leakage levels.

Micro-muffins

Cylinders of nickel grown by electroforming and after lift-off of the corresponding resist mask. In some cases, the nickel overpassed the resist (muffins), while other cylinders broke at the base (little tarts). The resist has been written with the photolithography technique.

Dark Horse
